Event VIDA Held on Aug 1, 2025

MOVING-ON hosted the VIDA event at its Tokyo Kita-sando office on Jul 25, 2025. Participants were invited by MOVING-ON. The two-hour event covered the following topics.

  1. An explanation of the event’s theme, “vida” (Catalan for “life”).
  2. MOVING-ON’s Role
  3. “Water” Supports Life, and “Bacteria” Coexist with Life

The Earth was born 4.54 billion years ago. “Water” appeared around 4.4 billion years ago.

“Bacteria”: The Origin of Life: Methane-Producing Archaea Discovered in 3.5 Billion-Year-Old Strata

“Do Living Things See and Feel the World Differently from Humans?”

Ape-men appeared 3 million years ago. Whales (their ancestors) appeared 35-50 million years ago. Ants appeared 150 million years ago, and bees appeared 150-200 million years ago. The octopus’ ancestor, the chambered nautilus, emerged 450 to 500 million years ago. The organisms featured here predate humans. Each organism is equipped with sensory organs optimized for their environment.

Humans cannot detect ultraviolet light, but bees, ants, octopuses, squid, and whales can. The colors of flowers seen by bees appear very different to those seen by humans. (Bees cannot see red.) Whales communicate over long distances using high-frequency sounds (to determine shape and location) and low-frequency waves through water. Whales are said to be able to detect low-frequency sounds such as magma activity and crustal movements.
